Restart
Sorry gang; we’ve been a bit inactive in the past few months.  Day jobs, career changes, movie going, school, concert going, personal stuff…. I could name hundreds of reasons for not putting out new music.  Despite all these distractions, the band is planning to start writing some new tunes and refining a few old ones in the not-so-distant future.  To say the least, we are very...

It's about time!
We started brainstorming video ideas. Not sure it will rival MJ’s Thriller, but we will do our best. Speaking of music videos, what are some of your favs?

Frischkorn
Susanne Frischkorn, the poet we had the honer performing with on Friday night, wrote sweet words about our band and her experiences at Story/Stereo. Her poetry reading was beautiful. She exuded confidence while still maintaining a softness in her voice. After reading a bit from Lit Windowpain, she delved into her more recent poem—giving the audience a sneak peak into her upcoming book of...

Hillary hearts Roofwalkers. An instrumental version of our song Chin Music is used by the Dept of State for the Virtual Student Foreign Service. Among other things, the VSFS helps promote environmental and conservation curriculum planning and gender equality around the globe. Next stop, Obama’s ipod.

New Merle Travis release/reissue
One other thing I meant to mention… A combo release was just put out of two sweet Merle Travis records—1950’s “Merle Travis Guitar,” and 1960’s “Walkin’ the Strings.”  Both these have been out of print for long stretches of time, and now can both be had together on one disc which includes a heap of bonus tracks.  The disc isn’t on...

Guitar tuning...yawn
I’ve been meaning to post a few more rambles dealing with guitar tuning after I did a little piece on guitar detuning. Tuning a guitar properly can actually be a somewhat complicated thing.  And the more I’ve played music the more sensitive I feel my ear is to anything being slightly off key. Many of us are of course familiar with a few means of tuning, electronic tuners being the...

Many Thanks
Thanks to all of you who came out to the show last night. We had a great time opening for Mark and Rose. This was our first time being up on stage in over a year and it felt long overdue. Hopefully you all will join us again next month at the Writer’s Center in Bethesda, MD on the 18th for our official CD release show. Also, for all of you who noticed the comment section of our blog...

From the Vaults
Tear Down the Tents, a song from our Seven Nights EP, is featured on a great compilation of music from the Dublin label, Indiecater Records. Worth a listen and download when you have a chance. Enjoying the Sofia Talvik song as I type… http://www.indiecater.com/indiecater-volume-four/

WatchWatch
Beck recently began a strange project where he has decided to cover entire albums in a 24 hour window.  I’m not sure how impressed I am with the cover of “waiting for my man” but the cover of “sunday morning” is ace.  I’m guessing there will be a few misses in this batch of tune, but when recording an entire album’s worth of songs in a day, one would...

Getting the Lowdown
A few years ago Roofwalkers was asked to play a show and our bassist, Raj, was unable to make it.  The rest of us were into doing the show, and so decided to go ahead as a trio. There are plenty of bands out there who are great at doing things on the fly—different players drift in and out, arrangements change every night, pyrotechnics displays come and go. But for me, and our band, that...

That Toddling Town
this goes out to our fan club in chicago. which admittedly right now consists of 1 possibly 2 fans, but man are they rabid. i’m wearing pads and a helmet next time. this past weekend the weather was 71 degrees with a light breeze and i found myself lost and wandering through chicago. a welcome break from east coast squalor, there’s nothing like this sturdy city by the lake in the...

1989 to 2009
I’m halfway through reading Black Postcards, a memoir by Dean Wareham. I’ve been a fan of Luna since I heard my older brother playing “California (all the way)” but only recently started listening to Galaxie 500 albums in full. What intrigues me about BP is the unique perspective one gets from being a front man in a somewhat famous band in the late 80s. Sending demo...

The Clean are one of my favorite bands in the world, and I can’t wait for thier new album. I just never can get over how a few simple chords can sound so perfect in the right hands. The backing vocals kinda remind me of Sleepy Jackson. Wow.

I can’t stop! A lot of moods: Steve Reich, mbira music, bad techno, etc. Very intuitive. For really trippy effect, open the link in multiple tabs and overlay patterns. —Ben
